Vision is foresight – the capacity to envisage future market trends and plan accordingly. This is according to Wikipedia. In business, vision is the life and success that guide internal decision making to achieve its goal and objectives. But how this vision is created, defined and communicated can define the difference between its successful outcome and successful people.
Great leaders utilize proper planning when defining their vision for the company. Although the planning includes key personnel and even feedback from the organization, a true leader is not there to define a consensus, but to define the right vision and then they conform the consensus around that vision. Great leaders lead, and understand others innately desire to be led.

Many companies and organizations have a vision and a defined Vision Statement. But the difference between success and failure is the process that happens after defining that vision. With a vision people prosper means that the leadership then takes that vision and drives it through the whole organization. Great leaders understand that with a defined vision, creation of the path to success happens twice: Mind and Action. Mind is the imagining the pathway, the steps, and the success. Action is taking the steps to achieve that imagination completed by developing an action plan and executing.
Great leaders work the process of imagining and goal setting. They and their leadership team develop the plan and actions to achieve their goals. They build a roadmap to success. Most importantly, they then communicate the vision, imagination, actions, and goals throughout the organization. In addition, and equally important, great leaders communicate the vision constantly. They find ways to point to small wins and gradual progress, and continually share the vision as they point to the next steps. Great leaders are transparent about roadblocks and missteps and they lead the team in overcoming setbacks and obstacles in order to get back on that roadmap to success.
In addition, strong organizations create transparency. They develop ways to show successes and to be honest about challenges. They communicate company financial health, which builds a sense of ownership and accountability among all team members. Everyone takes an interest in the organizations success.

Jack Nicklaus, the legendary golfer, would imagine his golf shots on each hole. He built a vision in his mind that developed a roadmap to success. Jack Nicklaus envisioned hitting to a certain area in the layout of the golf course that would help define the type of next shot he would have from the next point. Did he always hit to that spot? The answer is he did not. But the benefit of having that roadmap is that any adjustments that were made were usually minor, but others may have been larger. The important part is that he imagined what success looked like, built a roadmap to success and set his plan in place. He had a vision, and with that vision he has had many victories.
